Stack Hosting – The Techy Bit Part One

In last week’s blog article we provided some details on the new Stack Hosting Platform, we’ve also compiled some more technical details on how it works and the new features available. This is part one of that information.

Autoscaling Cloud Platform

All our platforms (Windows, Linux and the new WordPress platform) are load balancing and autoscaling. Instead of relying on just one or two servers, each website we host accesses a whole platform’s resources with automatic scaling to meet your needs. No single point of failure means optimal reliability 24/7.

Dual octa-core processors

Each web server has two 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon E5 v4 (Broadwell) octa-core processors with hyper-threading to give 32 logical cores per machine. These have access to plenty of fast memory resource: 64 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM. Any of our web servers can serve any website we host at any time.

100% SSD Storage

All of our hosting plans come with SSD web space at no extra cost. This applies across all 3 Windows, Linux, and WordPress platforms. Our entire storage platform is SSD, not just the cache. This ensures super-fast, search engine friendly websites from the word ‘go’.

IPv6 enabled

We’ve built the new platform for the future – not just for the present. IPv6 is being adopted as the new standard for IP addresses as more devices connect to the internet. You can rest assured that we support it, in advance of it becoming the norm.

UK Data Centres & Support

Our servers are based in a state-of-the-art UK data centre, in Pride Park, Derby. It’s manned 24/7 and connected to the UK backbone using UK-based IP blocks for better speeds and search engine results.

Google-based DNS platform

The Domain Name System (DNS) translates domain names – and email addresses – into IP addresses. So when you visit a URL, your browser knows the address of the server to download the page from. It’s an essential part of the internet – so it needs to be fast.

Google knows all about fast internet response times – as you’d expect! Their global fibre network leads the industry. It provides a quick and stable response regardless of traffic. So we built our DNS platform on the same infrastructure as Google.

All domains hosted with us benefit from Google DNS
